In season 89/90, after defeating Glentoran in the previous round, United were drawn against Belgium side Royal Antwerp in the UEFA Cup 2nd Round.

Several Glenrothes Arabs made the trip, however it all ended in a disappointing defeat.

Final score - Royal Antwerp 4-0 Dundee United.
